When installing the report extensions on AX2012 R3 on SQL 2016 you may experience an AX crash of the installer.
Recently I encountered an issue when installing reporting extensions.
An error occurred during setup of Reporting Services extensions. Reason: Version string portion was too short or too long. System.ArgumentException: Version string portion was too short or too long. at System.Version..ctor(String version) at Microsoft.Dynamics.AX.Framework.Reporting.Shared.SrsWmi.get_ReportManagerUrl() at Microsoft.Dynamics.Setup.ReportsServerInstaller.GetOrCreateServerConfiguration(String instanceName, String sharePointServiceApplicationSite, Boolean& createdConfiguration) at Microsoft.Dynamics.Setup.Components.ReportingServicesExtensions.InstallConfigurationFiles(String instanceName, String sharePointServiceApplicationSite, Boolean& createdConfiguration) at Microsoft.Dynamics.Setup.Components.ReportingServicesExtensions.RunReportingSetupManagerDeploy()
When trying to process a new installation of Analysis server with the AX anaylsis entensions installed, you may get the following error message: The provider ‘SQLNCLI10.1’ is not registered.
When installing reporting extensions on SQL server 2016, you may experience a crash during the installation preventing the installation to complete.
You may encounter an error when installing some of the components on AX. The error message will read:
The AOS ‘<server>@<port>’ cannot be reached. Setup cannot continue. Verify that you are entering the correct server information and that the AOS service is running.
It makes life a lot easier to built one installation set to install your DAX 2012 software along with any kernel patches or CU updates. Simple copy the files into a directory (one for each patch or update) under the installation folder ‘Updates’. This will mean that when you install a client, or any other DAX component the installation will automatically update with the ‘updates’ so everything can be installed in one process and wont be missed or forgotten.
Trying to do an install of SSRS with AX2012 R2 and came across another endpoint issue. Looking at the AIF inbound ports found none of the services would start. Each one would report the following type error:
Object Server 01: System.OperationCanceledException: AIF service group not activated. Service group: BIService. Error: HTTP could not register URL http://+:8101/DynamicsAx/Services/ BIService /. Your process does not have access rights to this namespace (see http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=70353 for details.
